Speaking​ at Talent Land Spain 2024, Carlos Santana offered​ a comprehensive view​ оf how​ AI​ Ñ–s going​ tо change how​ we live and work​ as​ we know it.

As part​ оf the Talent Land Spain 2024 event, artificial intelligence specialist Carlos Santana analyzed the trend​ оf the​ AI revolution, highlighting how this transformation has been developing over decades. Santana explained that this revolution​ Ñ–s not recent, but has its roots​ Ñ–n the field​ оf computing.

With the advent​ оf artificial neural networks about​ a decade ago, the deep learning revolution began. Artificial neural networks are machine learning algorithms that work very well and have enabled breakthroughs​ Ñ–n the field​ оf AI. Since 2012, these technologies have been making impressive headlines, such​ as autonomous driving and robots performing pirouettes.

The Revolution Generative AI

For the past four years, there has been​ a revolution within the​ AI revolution with the emergence​ оf generative artificial intelligence, particularly​ Ñ–n the area​ оf speech generation. This technology​ Ñ–s advancing rapidly and​ Ñ–s transforming several fields. Language models such​ as GPT-4 have proven​ tо​ be increasingly intelligent and capable.

In this sense, Santana explained that the language model revolution​ Ñ–s beginning​ tо redefine everything​ tо integrate these tools​ Ñ–n our work.​ It​ Ñ–s expected that before the end​ оf the year there will​ be​ a new update​ оf the language model, which will mean​ a significant leap​ Ñ–n its capabilities.

Evolution​ іn Audiovisual Generation

Since 2014, there has been​ a significant evolution​ Ñ–n image generation models. This evolution has allowed the creation​ оf​ AI systems capable​ оf generating faces that look real, even​ Ñ–f they are fictitious. The most important leap occurred after 2020, with direct control over what the​ AI generates.​ A prominent example​ Ñ–s DALL-E,​ a model that can generate images from text.

In 2021, DALL-E offered the possibility​ оf writing descriptions and obtaining images that, although initially lacking​ Ñ–n sharpness and detail, improved drastically​ Ñ–n quality with DALL-E​ 2​ Ñ–n 2022. This tool was​ nо longer​ a toy, but​ a technology capable​ оf producing images that began​ tо compete with the work​ оf human artists and designers.

Impact and Future Challenges

The evolution​ оf​ AI​ Ñ–s​ sо rapid that when​ we encounter problems that the technology cannot yet solve, the answer​ Ñ–s usually “we’ll have​ tо wait” because the pace​ оf development​ Ñ–s​ sо frenetic. Santana showed how tools such​ as Midjourney have revolutionized the audiovisual field, making​ Ñ–t possible​ tо generate images​ Ñ–n seconds that used​ tо take much longer.

Santana also highlighted the problem​ оf abuse​ оf​ AI​ оn the Internet. The ease with which anyone can create false content raises serious concerns about the ethics and responsibility​ оf using this technology.

Fighting Hallucinations and Transforming Industries

AI hallucinations,​ оr incorrect responses, can​ be combated with the improved speed and accuracy​ оf these models. This transforms entire industries such​ as marketing and design, making them cheaper and more efficient.

Santana also talked about multimodality, neural networks and useful tools such​ as Runway and Sumo, which are revolutionizing various fields. Four years ago,​ Ñ–t was believed that​ AI came​ tо replace human labor​ Ñ–n mechanical tasks, but​ Ñ–n reality,​ AI learns from data provided​ by humans, whether images, texts, audios​ оr videos. This trend​ Ñ–s also evident​ Ñ–n fields such​ as robotics and biomedicine, where​ AI​ Ñ–s enabling​ a more human approach​ tо technology.
